Engulfed by the University of Colorado, bars, and restaurants lies a sweet double feature to winch in busy downtown Boulder. This spot is characterized by a 3 foot low head dam transitioning into a gap over a pile of rocks. The landing zone below the spillway is deep; however, the LZ behind the gap is not. As with any spot on Boulder Creek, expect a crowd of college kids rooting you on.

Where Cherry Creek dumps into the South Platte River in downtown Denver, Colorado is where you can find Confluence Park. Confluence park has a lot of features. Big gaps, medium gaps, and small gaps. Its a busy location, with lots of tourists. Scouting this spot out first and deciding what you want to hit is a good idea. The feature that stands out the most is a 10 foot tall, triple step gap filled with rocks. Confluence Park is a must hit destination for a winch trip to Denver.

Geert Nielen

Imagine 7 upstream, log angle ramps. That’s Centennial Park. The beauty of this location is that the landings are all large and deep. You even have the option of linking up multiple ramps at one time. Although the features are constructed of concrete, there is a channel with a deep flume of water in running down the entire length of every ramp. This gives the rider the opportunity to get a good pop. Technical maneuvers are perfect to lay down at Centennial Park.

Boulder Creek is a true destination for wake skaters. Combinations are endless because there are so many pool drop features. Most notable is a big gap with a large pool above and below it. This hit is about 10 feet wide and 7 feet tall. It’s scenic and be assured, there will be hundreds of college undergrads cheering you on. They will greet riders with enthusiasm and cold drinks during and after an epic winch session.

Watch out for snakes, they are everywhere here at the Double Drop. Not to mention the sharp, jagged rocks that fill the landing zone of this feature. Get in the water and do some dirty work by cleaning up the landing before hucking. It may save your ankles and skull while crashing. The beauty of the Double Drop, is the perfectly spaced spillways that beg for techy combinations. Setting up the winch is easy too. There is a platform that sits atop a small cliff on a trail high above the feature, giving the rider a drag free session. Pay attention to the bridge over looking this drop, you will most likely have spectators trying to figure out what it is you are doing.
